Due to deeper Exploration Wells, it is now, and will be in the future,
essential
to upgrade most 400K DSC's on the older and smaller Rigs that are still in
operation. There are many
options to be considered when choosing which
upgrade is the best option for your Rig.
The Mocomp Solutions
upgrade will cover many options open to the older
and smaller Rigs, providing deeper Well Operations by upgrading
the DSC's compensating capacity, thus providing the ability to extend the Rigs
operating capacity on
an affordable Budget.
Several upgrade options are available ranging from the simple replacement
of some
of the major components to a more radical replacement of most of
the Sub-Assemblies that make up the DSC Assembly.
The main advantages
with any of the upgrades available is that it will give the Rig the ability to
compensate
a heavier string weight but retain the original DSC dimensions,
essential for a small Derrick that is common on the
older and smaller Rigs.
It is recommended that all upgrades are carried out in a controlled Workshop
environment, to reduce the risk of contamination to the DSC when being
assembled, as contamination will drastically
affect the reliability and longevity
of the upgraded DSC. We can however offer an upgrade exchange service,
where
we can supply an upgraded DSC to your specification that would be a direct
replacement for your old DSC. The upgraded
exchange DSC can simply be
swapped out between wells to reduce the impact to Drilling Operations.
Our personnel have direct experience in successfully carrying out several
upgrades including the following:-
* The replacement of a Shaffer 500K - 18ft stroke DSC with a 600K - 25ft
stroke DSC, adding
Upper and Lower Standpipe Manifolds at a later date
when less intrusive to Drilling Operations.
* The replacement of a Shaffer 400K - 18ft stroke DSC with a 500K - 25ft
stroke DSC, carried out over
a 14 day period between Wells.
* The replacement of a Vetco 400K - 15ft stroke DSC with a 600K - 25ft
stroke Shaffer Style DSC. This conversion is the most intrusive, with
complete Systems replacement
being required. This Upgrade requires the
installation of HP APV's, manufacture and installation
of HP Air supply
piping, supply and installation of Upper and Lower Standpipe Manifolds,
and the supply and installation of the Drillers control console.
